I have a very cute and easy Kids Activity that is perfect for the Thanksgiving holiday that your kid is going to love! It’s a great activity to keep them busy while you are getting ready for your turkey day and will keep them out of your hair just long enough for you to catch up on those much needed moments in the kitchen.

What you Need:

  • 2 Paper Lunch Saks
  • 1 Large Paper Bag
  • Old Newspaper
  • 2 White Napkins or Paper Towels
  • Tape

Directions:

Start off by having your child wad up some old newspaper. You will just need enough to fill 2 paper bags about half way up. We rolled up a lot because we did this at the daycare that I teach at so don’t be fooled by the picture. We mad a lot of turkey legs!!

Then have your child open 2 lunch sized paper bags and fill about half way up with the crunched up newspaper. You will be amazed at how proud your child will be that they can complete task one and two. The really love crunching up the newspaper!

Now that they have the turkey legs filled take some scotch tape and twist the end of the turkey leg to make it form the leg portion. Wrap tape around the leg about 2 inches from the top of the bag to help hold the turkey shape.

Now it’s time to make the headband portion of the hat. Take your large brown grocery sack and cut off about 3-4 inches from the bottom. You will then cut the round strip to form a long paper. Once you have the long paper cut take it and fold it up and then fold it up again long ways. You are making a thick band to place around your child’s head. Folding it twice makes it a little thicker and will be harder for them to tear up.

Once you have your long strip place it around your child’s head and snip it off to make it the correct length to go around their head. Take a stapler ( do this for them) and again measure it around there head and put two or three staples and make the head band.

Write their name on the front of the band (or let them practice their name) and then set aside. Go back to your turkey legs for a moment and place a napkin on the small end of the leg and tape it on as seen in the photo. Repeat for the other leg.

Now that you have completed the head band and both turkey legs you can assemble it. Place a turkey leg onto one side of the band and staple tow or three times. Repeat on the other side.

Now you have a perfect Turkey leg hat for Thanksgiving dinner!!! Let you child wear it proudly!! You can even have them make one for those special adults in there life and everyone can be “in style” this Thanksgiving!!

Your child will enjoy this kids activity and will enjoy making their turkey leg hat every year!! It’s a great family tradition that will keep them busy while mom and dad prepare that perfect meal! Make sure you stop by and check out all our other kids activities we have on the blog!
