Being a mom can be one of the hardest things you could ever imagine! Finding a balance between understanding, caring, listening, and making sure you instill values in your child that will lead them into a life as an adult with all the skills they need to survive this crazy world can leave your head spinning. Boy that was a lot to say all at once but that is what life as a mom really is.
Surviving the Tantrums
It is very easy to second guess your choices as a parent. It is your job to raise your child, to help them make choices, and to let them see the consequences if they choose to make a bad choice. When exhaustion sets in and your child has been screaming and throwing the biggest tantrum of the day your nerves can get frazzled and your head can start spinning.
I say this with much experience under my belt because you see I am an over 40 mother of a darling 14 year old teenage girl and a spunky bright eyed 3 year old toddler. There are time that I feel like I have this mothering thing licked and then there are the times when the tears roll down my face and I just want to curl up in a fetal position and call out for my own mommy to help me.
It was after a very long day of arguing with my oldest and a very long car ride to the bank with my screaming overly hot and overly tired toddler that I first heard this song while sitting in the drive up at the bank. My mother once again helped me out from over three hours away. She shared this beautiful video on my facebook page and I saw it and started listening. Now don’t go getting all bent out of shape, I had my blue tooth in my ear and the phone on the seat beside me as I pulled away.
With my child screaming at the top of her lungs that she wanted a different color sucker I started listening to the words of the song and fell in love with it. I listen to it at least once a day to give me the motivation that I need to be strong and carry on. To be there for my children and to help them make correct choices, even when I am out of energy and feel like I am losing my mind.
As a mother I know first hand that children can be quite overwhelming but I guarantee that they are worth every minute of it! That screaming stubborn toddler will grow into a beautiful young lady who could change the world. That teen that hates you so much for ruining their life will grow into a caring young individual with a heart of gold, who’s compassion for people will go way beyond your understanding.
When parenting becomes a little overwhelming at times and you feel like you are losing your cool, I hope you can also find relief listening to this video. Hold your head up high and stand strong because you ARE a good mom and when they going gets tough just take a deep breath and……..let it go.
**P.S Mom…..thanks for always being there even when your three hours away. You help me more than you will ever know 😉
