As we leave the scorching hot summer sun behind us and gladly welcome in the cool fresh winds of fall you will want to jump outside into a crisp pile of leaves with your little ones and get out and enjoy the beautiful changing of the season before winter comes in and rears it’s ugly head. There are plenty of fall family activities to add to your to-do list this fall that you just can’t afford to miss!

Visit a Pumpkin Patch – The pumpkin patch is always full of teachable moments with your kids young and old. Seeing where and how a pumpkin grows and the different kinds that are available is often very interesting to children. Feeling the weight of the pumpkin and how smooth it is on the outside will keep them exploring for hours. Pumpkin patches will often have other things for you kids to do like a corn maze, hayride, and kids activities.

Feed the Ducks – There is no better place to enjoy the foliage than near a lake or a pond. Grab up some stale bread and spend some time checking out the ducks and geese in your neighborhood. While your at it you might want to pack a little lunch to enjoy yourselves.

Visit an Orchard – There is just something about lifting your young child up into the trees and letting them reach way …. way… way up high and pick out that perfect apple that they have their eye on. Then you can bring them down and look the apple over real good (we must check for worms) and then taking a great big crunchy bite out of the fresh crisp apple. This is a great one to do every single year and will leave them with memories of a lifetime!

Jumping in a Pile of Leaves – The leaves have to be raked up anyway so why not turn it into a family event. Even if your child is to young to carry a rake why not try to give them something that they can work with. Grab a toy broom or shovel and show them just how to work together as a family to build the biggest leaf pile on the block and then everyone RUN and JUMP together into a great big crunchy pile of leaves!

Write a Fall Bucket List – Take the time to sit down with your kids and plan a fall bucket list of activities that THEY want to complete. If you are having trouble coming up with ideas for them you can hop on over and print off my free bucket list printable instead and start completing it. There are even check marks you child can check off as you do the activities.

Sit by a Campfire – There is nothing better on the fall family fun activities list than sitting by the campfire and telling stories to your children with the warm glow of the campfire by your feet. Kick it up a notch by cooking some hot dogs and smore’s for the kids to enjoy and play a little flashlight tag before you head in for the night.

Create Leaf Crayon Rubbings – Creating a crayon rubbing is a fun and easy activity for kids of all ages. Head outside with some crayons and plain paper. Find a beautiful leaf and place it under your sheet of paper. Place the crayon on it’s side (you need to tear the paper off the crayon) and rub it back and forth until you see the shape of the leaf coming through the paper.
