We are half way through the Kindergarten year and have been finding ways to practice sight words for quite a while now. In our neck of the woods, sight words are broken down and introduced every quarter of the school year. You can see a printable quarterly sight word list here on the blog if you want to start working on them at home now.
What are sight words?
Sight words are words that appear frequently in print but are not easy for children to sound out. These words are commonly used and therefore need to be learned by your child. We begin introducing them in the Pre-K years and really start working on them in Kindergarten where children are first learning to read.
Some children are eager to do this and some you just need to be a little inventing on different ways to practice sight words to make it fun and inviting for them. That way they stay interested and don’t become to overwhelmed. Here are some items that will help you practice sight words in your home.
